Away from the tourists
Earlier this year I took a trip back to my place of birth, Jamaica. I usually go back every year for about a month. I was born in a beautiful area up in the hills in Kingston called Stoney Hill, however nowadays I tend to reside in Portmore, near the infamous Hellshire beach. As a native to Jamaica I don’t tend to stay in the touristy places like Ocho Rios, Montego Bay and Negril as most visitors do, however I do treat myself to some of the amazing offers Jamaica does have. This time I took a trip up to St Elizabeth, an area not frequented a lot by tourists but rather by locals, and discovered the amazing YS Falls!
Featuring 7 natural waterfalls, which all meet in a luxurious natural pool at the bottom, zip line canopy ride , rope swinging and gorgeous food in the cabanas in the relaxing cabanas, there’s loads to do to keep you busy for the day. Many people know about, and have climbed the infamous Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios, but this little known beauty is definitely a worthy contender. From the reception you can buy ice creams and snacks to keep you satiated on the picturesque journey to the falls. You are taken on a small, open sided safari type truck through the grounds, where you can see all the animals and beautiful foliage that Jamaica has to offer along your way. Once you get to the site, you are greeted by luscious green lawns, smells of jerk chicken cooking, and the sights of these amazing natural waterfalls.
Rates work out at around $19 or £15 which is an absolute bargain, however residents of Jamaica receive a heavy special residents discount. Check them out at: https://ysfalls.com/
If you are visiting Jamaica either for a journey back home, to see what the Caribbean has to offer for the first time, or just to get away from the ins and outs of everyday life, I definitely recommend a trip down to YS falls in St Elizabeth. I would definitely go back.
